Picture a basement party where hip hop and reggae DJ’s meet up, or where acoustic singer-songwriters and poets jam out…Well Netroots is kind of like that: a national meet up for members of the digital and progressive communities; of bloggers and social activists. AND THEY WANT TO SEE DIVERSITY.

I am writing to tell you about some thought-provoking events coming to the local area and to tell you about a fun way that you can be involved in transforming your community. The Empower Communities Project, originally The Empower Providence Project, is a series that kicked off its inaugural celebration in October 2010 to give local and national artists a chance to showcase their talent and approach to music and grassroots community organizing.

The aims of the Empower Communities Project are to gather resources and audiences around the topic of using art and media for changing communities, and to introduce new audiences to professional artists who play music reflecting community issues and concerns. The series emerged as an alternative way of engaging young people and underserved communities in creating their own solutions and repairing their own cities.

On Friday, January 20, 2012, we will bring a third installment of the newly named Empower Communities Project to the city of New Bedford with Soul Rebels Unite: An Empower Communities Event and Reggae Bashment. Soul Rebels Unite will highlight activists and change-makers from the city alongside regional, national, and internationally-known music acts, including Tem Blessed and the Blest Energy Band, featuring The Empress aka Cita-Light; singer-songwriter and recording artist, The Dubber; and Isis Storm, a collective of female hip hop artists, spoken word poets, visual artists and producers.

Soul Rebels Unite will be held at the Black Watch Pub, 266 Dartmouth Street in New Bedford, MA, with community workshops and a “People of Culture Mixer and Marketplace” going on from 7:00-9:00 pm and with live music and DJ’ing from 9:00pm-2:00am. The event is open to the public and attendees that are 21 or older. Admission is $7 for members of the public, with special rates and tickets available to grassroots organizations and small businesses who want to help sponsor the event.

In the vein of the previous Empower events, activists, entrepreneurs, poets and musicians (including recent New Bedford School Committee candidate, Erik Andrade) will lead the Mixer and Marketplace, and prior to the event, several of the evening’s performers will engage in work with youth – specifically participating in a brown bag lunch discussion and intimate performance with participants of YouthBuild New Bedford.

Tem Blessed is a hip hop artist that was born in West Africa, but who currently lives in New Bedford, MA where he performs and uses Hip Hop as a tool to educate, empower and inspire youth and communities. As a Green for All Fellow, and father of two, he has been active in "Greening" New Bedford through work with YouthBuild New Bedford and by making activism-focused Hip Hop music like the "Green Anthem," which he did with another area nonprofit organization, 3rd Eye Unlimited. Musically, he has worked to elevate underground Hip Hop and, along and with his band, Blest Energy, has consistently put out albums, including his 2009 release, "BleSSed Energy.” On January 20, Tem Blessed, Blest Energy and the Empress aka Cita-Light will be supporting their album "Re-Energized," which will officially be on sale beginning on January 11.

THE Dubber is a self-taught singer/songwriter who fuses American Rock, Jazz and Funk along with Reggae, Middle Eastern and Afro Beat styles to express his emotions and complete his distinctive sound. Born in Washington DC, but currently based out of Columbia SC, the Dubber’s performance background also includes turns doing hard core metal and roots reggae. Recently returned from a tour in Europe, the Dubber has blazed a trail internationally with honest and intimate acoustic performances of selections from his albums, including his 2010 release, “Global Warning.” With experience playing such prestige events as South by Southwest in Austin, TX and the Mid-Atlantic Music Conference, The Dubber offers audiences a glimpse at a unique, Black American Roots sound from a seasoned music professional.

Isis Storm is a RI-based collective of women who use art, words and music – primarily poetry, hip hop music and dj’ing – to empower women and underserved communities, specifically through performances, workshops, and media projects. The group was founded by Reza C. Clifton (DJ Reza Wreckage) – an award-winning blogger, DJ, and multimedia producer – and by hip hop artist, poet and scholar-educator, Kalyana Champlain (5th Elament). Clifton and Champlain have traveled throughout the East Coast performing and giving workshops on women’s empowerment, hip hop music, and diversity in the media.

In December of 2011 and in early 2012, I took some time to review the year that was coming to a close and the year that was coming ahead. In particular, I was interested in analyzing some of the work done by my Isis Storm partner and me, and I was interested in looking at all the great art, culture, and media produced in 2011. I have many nicknames because I am a professional grant writer, multimedia producer, freelance journalist, blogger, music DJ, community organizer, and event planner from Providence, RI. I have been recognized for multimedia projects that appear on my flagship blog, RezaRitesRi.com; for written work and direction as health editor for She Shines, a magazine published by YWCA Northern RI; and for leadership as a young professional and community organizer in Providence, Rhode Island. RI Future Returns: New Year, New Elections, New Voices, New Structure

Rhode Island's Future (RIFuture.org) The “number 1 political blog” in Rhode Island is back; will launch on January 11, 2012 as part of state bloggers’ gathering.

The blogosphere in RI has changed since 2005, when Matthew Jerzyk founded Rhode Island's Future (RIFuture.org) to bring more attention to progressive politics and left of center issues. Back in those days, Jerzyk and founding contributors, like Alex Moore and David Segal, were in the midst of a RI where the only places to hear discussions and analyses on RI politics were the radio and television. Facebook was not a catchword, blogs were still a new concept to most Rhode Islanders, and the Ocean State was welcoming Governor Carcieri into his first term, after 8 years of Republican Lincoln Almond.

In those days, and at its best, the blog broke major news stories. Notably, the post that was sourced for a lead-in story on channel 10 news and credited for Sheldon Whitehouse's defeat of Lincoln Chafee for the US Senate seat in 2006, and the coverage of racist comments at Roger Williams University Law School in 2007 that was picked up by national and international news agencies like the Washington Post and the Guardian.

RI Future also served as a place that nurtured and catapulted some of today’s political leaders, including founder Jerzyk who is now Angel Taveras's Director of Policy and Municipal Affairs and Senior Counsel, and its subsequent editors Pat Crowley at NEARI, and Brian Hull who took over is 2009 and is pursuing a Masters in Public Policy at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. A true pioneer that helped create and shape the RI blogosphere, RI Future’s engaging work pre-dates political blogs on the websites of RI Public Radio, The Providence Journal, WPRI, and popular local blogs like the Daily Dose.

It is because of this history of excellence and the crucial role that RI Future has played in the state's political and cultural spheres for half a decade that the blog has always attracted new readers and writers. The new evolution is no different. After a year-long experiment in which the blog was largely unmoderated and independent, Rhode Island's Future will recommit to expanding the progressive voice throughout the state. With the upcoming primary and general elections this year, a new political landscape that includes the first Hispanic Mayor of Providence and a registered Independent as governor, the upcoming Netroots Nation convention, and a series of financial and social crises that have come to a head in RI, including skyrocketing unemployment, perennial tax debates, and the recent pension reform legislation, RI Future will once again play a prominent role in advocating for progressive solutions to the problems facing the Ocean State and will be a truly grass-roots community-based source for information in the state and beyond.

The expanded list of contributors to the blog includes many longtime, new, and periodic writers and community activists in the state including: Aaron Regunberg, Andy Cutler, Brian Hull, David Segal, John Speck, Josh Stabach, Kate Brock, Libby Kimzey, Marco McWilliams, Mark Santow, Pat Smith, Reza Clifton, Russ Conway, and Thom Cahir. The new writing team includes a former elected official and Congressional candidate, a current candidate for State Representative, social activists and community organizers, a history professor, a local adult educator, an entrepreneurship and strategic communications consultant, and an award-winning multimedia producer. Each of these writers brings with them particular expertise and interests that will reinvigorate the RI Future community by reaching new audiences.

The evolution brings a wider spectrum of views and interests, and the newest incarnation of RI Future will be a platform where topics will be covered in written and multimedia formats. While budget and tax policy, the economy, state and local elections, immigration, civil rights, progressive politics, and State House news be a large part of the stories covered, RI Future will also be tackling issues such as net neutrality, digital rights, and online privacy; the intersection of race, art and politics; trends in political and online communities; and will more fully engage with the arts and culture community. More importantly, as the buzz about RI Future’s return builds in blogger and political circles, content will be driven by the evolving group of diverse writers to the site. Readers will be further engaged through an article rating system that monitors reader reaction, comment ratings which will assist with the self-policing of the site, social media linkages, reader-created content, and partnerships with other blogs and media outlets.

The new and improved RIFuture.org will be available for viewing beginning on January 11, 2012 – a time coinciding with the Annual Providence Blogosphere Post-Holidays Party, which will be held on the 11th from 7:00-10:00 PM at The Salon, 57 Eddy St. in Providence. More about Jay Walker
Jason "Jay" Walker is a stage & indie film actor from Rhode Island, and a published poet and spoken word artist. His first two chapbook publications sold out of their first printings, while his third official publication, Flower, was released on November 9, 2011. He’s been writing poetry--mainly spoken word & haiku/senryuu--since high school and getting naked in public, figuratively and literally, since 1993.

He’s a three-time finalist for the Providence Poetry Slam team, making first alternate the third time in 1998 and he is a host and regular performer at several poetry readings in his home state. Walker was also the first Isis Storm “Man We Love” blogger and only male in the artist collective. His second book, “Where I’m Coming From" was a declaration of the status of his emotional journey to the ultimate destination of peace, love & nakedness for all.”

Feminism, Fishbone and Michelle Bachmann

Have you seen this video? What were your reactions, or what are they now?

PROVIDENCE, RI - On November 23, 2011, Afro-Punk posted the video above, along with the message: "LMAO! via Fishbone: The Roots perform Fishbone's "Lyin' Ass Bitch" welcoming Michele Bachmann on the Jimmy Fallon show." Afro-Punk is a project/website/movement that started when founders Matthew Morgan and James Spooner joined forces under a common understanding "that the indie rock/punk/hardcore scene had powerful appeal beyond the predictable Caucasian audience."

In response to The Roots' performance, writer Megan Carpentier wrote an article for the Women's Media Center, "Exclusive: Bachmann Reception on ‘Fallon’—Unfunny, Guys." In her piece - and in similar assessments left in comments - Carpentier asserts "...calling a guest—let alone a seated U.S. congresswoman who is one of a small number of Republican women to ever run for the Presidency—a “lying bitch” is both sexist and unfunny. It’s not even what one could legitimately call “snark,” which is generally understood to mean a sarcastic comment or snide remark."

Comendably, she provides a list of other songs which the band could have considered, a feat I could not replicate in my response to her. Take a look at the video and Carpentier's article, then take a peek at my response below.

Thank you for this post. As a feminist and Black woman, I was very intrigued by the title and topic. Some thoughts:

I really appreciate the pro-active nature of this critique - specifically the inclusion of suggestions of other songs/bands to cover. But a very important element about your suggestions is that all of the bands/musicians you suggested are white/caucasian. I think that The Roots was very intentional, not just in the song choice, but in who they were covering - a black punk/funk band that exists both on the fringes of rock culture and the fringes of mainstream black culture.

Furthermore, I think that your article reinforces the constant need to examine privilege and openness in feminist circles, in this case in terms of art and popular culture. Especially with suggestions like Britney Spears and The Go-Go's, there seems to have been no consideration, when this list was compiled, of the band and genre that made The Roots famous - or influenced their work. And, historically frustrating, your list does not include music/songs done by Black Women.

Now keep in mind, I'm not being naive or overly optimistic either. Fishbone has a new album that is out now, or soon to be released, and they have a new documentary film that is currently being shown in different cities. Whether or not The Roots agreed to support Fishbone's projects, or just that the band is on their mind, it's fair to assume that Black Women engaged in similar projects have not gotten the same kind of attention that Fishbone has over the years.

Ultimately, I think their song choice helps to open the discussion about relations and tensions between political/progressive Black Men, political/progressive White Women, and political/progressive Women of Color. I thank The Roots and you, Megan Carpentier, for getting the discussion going.

The first events for the Empower Providence Project were held on Friday, October 7, 2011 with a mix of visiting musicians, local artists and grassroots community activists gathering to "empower" Providence and inspire youth. Part of a movement to connect the public to artists and musicians who explore community issues in their work, the October 7 events began with community service and civic engagement projects with Mount Hope Learning Center and RI Jobs With Justice, and culminated with an evening performance in downtown Providence by Washington, DC-based hip hop artist, Head-Roc; NYC-based hip hop artist and "freedom singer," Spiritchild; and 5th Elament and DJ Reza Wreckage of the RI-based women’s performance group, Isis Storm.

The Empower Providence show at RISD is the second event of the Project as well as a stop on the Back to the Roots Tour w/ Evan Greer & spiritchild. Getting involved in electoral campaigns is not something I normally do. But inspiration isn't always predictable or normal...

NEW BEDFORD, MA - Check me out tonight at Black Watch Pub in New Bedford, MA at a fundraiser for Erik Andrade, a candidate for the city's School Commitee (elected in New Beford instead of appointed, as in Providence). The event includes live performances from Cape Verdean Reggae group Afrika Rainbow, spoken word artists Rudy Rudacious Cabera and Marlon Carey, and Djing/digital storytelling by me, Venus Sings/Reza Wreckage. Hip Hop Show Gathers Visiting Musicians, Local Artists and Activists to “Empower Providence” and Inspire Youth

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Empower Providence Project is a multidimensional cultural celebration happening on Friday, October 7, 2011, beginning with community service and civic engagement and culminating with an evening performance in downtown Providence by Washington, DC based hip hop artist, Head-Roc; NYC-based hip hop artist and "freedom singer," Spiritchild; and RI-based artists from the women’s performance group, Isis Storm. It is part of a movement to connect the public to artists and musicians who explore community issues in their work, and it comes at the same time as the Occupy Wall Street direct actions that have stirred up community members of all ages and backgrounds - and sparked similar “occupy” activities in DC, Boston, and here in Providence.

Head-Roc is an independent musician who has gained most of his fan base through two decades of live performances and activism. He has been outspoken on issues of racism, neglect of communities of color, and inequities in urban school districts, and he regularly writes songs advocating for workers rights, environmental justice, and using music to grow political movements. Before his evening performance, he will speak to and perform for a rally organized by youth from RI Jobs with Justice, a grassroots community organization located in Providence.

Spiritchild, who is from the south Bronx and Brooklyn, is also known for integrating activism and music. He uses his art to converse with his audience about the injustices facing the poor and oppressed, the dangers of climate change, and the need to take on environmental justice issues, in New York City and around the world. He is also an instructor in songwriting at several public schools throughout New York. Prior to his evening performance, he will speak to and perform for students and families of the Mount Hope Learning Center’s 21st Century After School Program in Providence.

All of the festivities happen on October 7, 2011 and members of the RI-based artist collective, Isis Storm, will also participate along the way. Isis Storm is a group of women who use art, words and music to empower women and underserved communities, specifically through performances, workshops, and media projects. The group was founded by writer, DJ, and multimedia producer, Reza C. Clifton (DJ Reza Wreckage), and hip hop artist, poet and scholar-educator, Kalyana Champlain (5th Elament).

The Empower Providence Project culminates with performances from Head-Roc, Spiritchild and Isis Storm at the Roots Cultural Center, 276 Westminster Street in downtown, Providence, starting at 8:00 PM. The event is open to the public and attendees of all ages, and admission is $7 to $12 dollars depending on group rates, special discounts and whether tickets are bought ahead of time or at the door. Besides performances by Head-Roc, Spiritchild and Isis Storm, WRIU, 90.3 host, DJ Kellan, will also spin music, and there will be open mic opportunities sprinkled through out the evening.

RENAISSANCE GARDEN PARTY TO TAKE PLACE SEPTEMBER 11 TO BENEFIT DESTINY HOUSE

PROVIDENCE (September 2, 2011) - Renowned regional musicians will come together on Sunday, September 11 to perform a benefit for Destiny House, a Providence based anti-domestic violence agency. The Providence Renaissance Garden Party features jazz, storytelling and a fish fry. Live music of greats such as, Nat King Cole, Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald entertain, tell stories, and interact with the audience as they perform.

The Garden Party is a much anticipated annual tribute to the jazz movement that started in Harlem during the American depression-era of the 1920's.

Proceeds from this community event benefit the unique programs of Destiny House.

RIBS to Celebrate Providence/Celebrate You this Weekend

The Rhode Island Black Storytellers is pleased to announce a weekend of storytelling. Thanks to a grant from the Celebrate Providence 375^th Committee, RIBS will present SANKOFA PROVIDENCE, at three community events, Saturday July 30-Monday, Aug 1, 2011. (Sankofa is an Akan word from Ghana: meaning essentially, “looking back to look ahead”).

Each event features RIBS storytellers Ramona Bass Kolobe and Raffini, sharing stories from RI Black History along the themes of Celebrate Providence: INGENUITY, HOPE, ROOTS and FREEDOM. After their performance on the main stage, YOU are invited to join them in an interactive setting designed so YOU can share YOUR story. The workshops will be recorded, and your story, should you choose, will be broadcast via the RIBS website!

About Eva Cortés

Eva Cortés was born in Honduras and raised in Sevilla, Spain, and the fusion of those two worlds is evident in her music.

After her first two releases for Universal Jazz Spain “Como Agua Entre los Dedos” (Like Water Between the Fingers), and “El Mar de mi Vida” (The Sea of My Life), and her third, recently released “Back 2 The Source” album, Eva Cortés ranks among the young and most interesting composers and performers of the jazz scene in Spain and Europe.

“Back 2 The Source” is Cortés’ personal look at the essence of what she considers to be the mainstay of her musical influence – jazz. It is an album packed with best-known standards and classical pieces from the American Songbook, though Cortés also sings in Spanish and French.

Cortés regularly tours Spain, France, Norway, and the Netherlands, while “Back 2 The Source” includes outstanding collaborations with guest artists like the guitar player and major Brasilian figure Romero Lubambo. Other guest artists include Paco de Lucía’s bass player and a major figure in Cuban music for the last ten years, Alain Pérez; drummer Marc Miralta, a key name in the development of the jazz/flamenco fusion; and Mark Whitfield, who is probably nowadays one of the most significant names of jazz guitar.

Venus Sings in Spain, Eva Cortes in Providence: An Interview Becomes a Friendship and Local Concert

Jazz singer, Eva Cortes, who resides in Spain, will be performing in Providence on Friday, July 1, 2011 in Providence, RI. I met Cortes two years ago at Jazzaldia, an annual jazz festival in Northern Spain.

PROVIDENCE, RI - It was about two years ago and an international adventure was ahead of me. I was visiting my brother who was living in Madrid, Spain, then I was returning to a place I discovered as a teenager - an annual jazz festival held in San Sebastian, a seaside city in Northern Spain.

This time around, I was visiting "on assignment" with a press pass and access to performers, for I was interviewing women for Venus Sings Radio, the program I do once a month as part of Voices of Women. My primary target was Esperanza Spalding, a then-rising (and much more known today) star in Jazz who was also performing that summer at the annual Jazz Festival in Newport. But as I prepared for my trip, I came across two other women who were going to be performing, who caught my attention musically: Melissa Laveaux, a Haitian singer with a unique sound who had lived in Montreal before moving to Europe; and Eva Cortes, a Honduran-born singer raised primarily in Sevilla, Spain whose jazz sound was rich and filled with familiar stylings like harmonica-playing, the use of the stand-up bass, and even skatting if you've seen her live.

My interview with Cortes was interesting, fun, and comprehensive as we discussed everything from how she writes her music to how she joined the music scene in Madrid. And her performance was captivating, melodic, and vibrant, with her soulful singing and the musical mastery of her bandmates.

Two years later I'm happy to report that we've kept in touch, and we've taken our relationship to the next step...

Tune in today from 4-6 PM for a special, RADIO TOWN HALL edition of Sonic Watermelons on BSR. Our goal is to examine the possibilities of opposition without alienation, and our guest include local and national speakers.

PROVIDENCE, RI – On Saturday, January 8, the country learned about an assassination attempt on an elected official from Arizona. In the process of the attack, the gunman hit Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in the head, took the lives of 6 individuals, and injured over a dozen others.

This happened the same week that RI’s newly elected governor and attorney general announced decisions or affirmations about immigration policy that some viewed as diametrically opposed. It also happened during the same week in which the new Republican-controlled House of Representatives in Washington, DC eliminated voting rights of six delegates representing areas such as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and American Samoa.

An assassination attempt on a woman in office in a polarized state, a polarizing issue that just got stickier here in RI, and the disenfranchisement of millions of American citizens, including in our nation’s capital. We’ve got to talk.

Join “Venus Sings and Isis Storm” on Brown Student and Community Radio for a “Town Hall Meeting” on Monday, January 10, 2011, with special guests, Washington-DC based “emancipatory” journalist, college professor and hip hop educator, Jared Ball; Cheryl Contee aka “Jill Tubman” of Jack & Jill Politics, a blog offering a black bourgeiose perspective on U.S. politics; Dr. Toby Ayers of Rhode Island for Community and Justice, a non-profit organization that works to unify diverse communities in RI; and Providence community leader and Native American historian-activist, Raymond Watson.

Badu released a video for another song on the album, Window Seat (above), which was received by some as a problem and by others as a gift from the eclectic artist.

KINGSTON, RI - It started with an extra Christmas set from "Cyber Larson" then moved into a super-mix sampling some of the best women in music coming from RI, the United States, and from spaces all over world. What am I talking about? Why the Christmas edition of Venus Sings Radio, silly!

On Saturday, December 25, the 4th Saturday of the month, I hosted Voices of Women on WRIU (www.wriu.org, 90.3 FM in and around RI) as I usually do, but it was an unusual day. First, IT WAS CHRISTMAS, so who would be listening to Venus Sings Radio/Voices of Women on such a special day, from 9-11 AM? No one, I supposed...or everyone! After all you're either up unwrapping presents and looking for music to accompany that, up making Christmas brunch or dinner and looking for music to accompany that, or you're not celebrating at all - but are still up on a Saturday looking for music to accompany your day.

But what about my wishes?

As the host of the last edition of Voices of Women of 2010, and as "Venus Sings" - a radio producer, blogger, and event DJ - my desire was to provide a show highlighting this year's best music; it's based on female artists with 2010 releases, albums played frequently on Venus Sings Radio, and songs selected all year by listeners and, of course, by me. As usual, the answer was to compromise, and the way to get that done proved simple. I invited Cyber Larson from One O'Clock Radio to extend his lively Christmas set into my show, from about 9:00-9:30, followed promptly by a musical abandonment of the holiday in favor of my list.

On November 27, 2010, I brought back this song, Sandcastle Disco, on Venus Sings Radio. It is from the 2008 full-length album by Solange Knowles: Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams. Other songs from the album I've played on the show include "I Decided" part 1 and 2; "T.O.N.Y"; "Would've Been the One"; and "Dancing in the Dark."

KINGSTON, RI - On Saturday, November 27, I hosted Venus Sings Radio as part of my contributions to Voices of Women, a show on WRIU. VoW comes on every Saturday from 9-11 AM, and every fourth Saturday I bring Venus Sings Radio. The show can be heard on 90.3 FM in and around RI, or it can be streamed live by following links and instructions on www.wriu.org.

PROVIDENCE, RI – Join Washington DC-based Grammy-nominated musician and progressive hip hop artist, Christylez Bacon, for his special return to Providence, Rhode Island: TONIGHT, Saturday, November 27, from 7-10 PM at State Ultra Lounge (1 Throop Alley, off of North Main Street in Providence). He’ll be performing alongside New England Urban Music award nominee and jazz vocalist Michelle Cruz, and me, Reza Clifton (Reza Rites / Venus Sings / DJ Reza Wreckage), Diversity in the Media award-winning producer and co-founder of the female artist collective, Isis Storm. Tonight's event will also include poetry and an introduction by Isis Storm co-founder, local hip hop femcee and recording artist, 5th Elament, and hosting duties performed by Jessica "J9" Coulter.

Tonight's event is the second part of a two-day music series that is happening at State Ultra Lounge, which is located near Rhode Island School of Design near downtown, Providence. “Sultry and Sweet,” a concept created by Clifton that debuted earlier this year – also at State - is designed to provide a stage to spoken word artists, (eclectic) hip hop artists, soul singers, and other performers that appeal to those wanting to hear more romance and passion in their music and poetry. This time around, it was extended to two days, and performances included those by poets who teamed up with two area house music dj’s for a night when “House Music [Met] Spoken Word Poetry.”

Bacon, the headlining act for November 27, performed in RI in January 2010 as part of Funda Fest, an annual festival organized by the Rhode Island Black Storytellers. Making a departure from kid-friendly selections like the ones he shared earlier this year and like those from the children's album that brought him Grammy-acclaim, tonight, he will include songs from his album, "Advanced Artistry," and from his soon-to-be released CD. Cruz and 5th Elament will also perform pieces from their respective albums, The Recovery and Thru the Muck, both of which were released this past fall.
