From Funk to Thievery, to Zapped by Sonantes: The Nov 28 Venus Sings Playlist

KINGSTON, RI - One good thing about music is that when it hits...you want more, especially if it's good. As a DJ and general music enthusiast, this often means that I'm seeking out past and future albums and selections by artists that I already admire and play. And that is essentially what my playlist will show from the November 28 edition of Venus Sings Radio on WRIU.

I have fallen for and now picked up multiple releases by internationally-recognized artists like Sharon Jones, Ceu, Ayo, Zap Mama, Estelle, Thievery Corporation, Sara Tavares, and Queen Ifrica, as well as by local artists, Kim Trusty and Michelle Cruz; a look through my old Voices of Women / Venus Sings playlists will show just that.

Take more recently acquired albums by those musicians and sprinkle them with the likes of classics like Lauryn Hill, Sade, and Sandra Iszadore - alongside more recently acclaimed artists like Gabriella Cilmi, Aphrodesia, and Chiwoniso - and you'll get an idea of the blend. Of course it wouldn't be Venus Sings Radio if I didn't deliver at least one exclusive interview or feature and timely community announcements.
